Intestinal Parasite

<< General Health Testimonials

It's a nasty little parasite, if that's what it was. Giardia lamblia lives high up in the intestinal tract and therefore is difficult to catch in a sample. Tests keep coming back negative, but you know something is wrong given your intestine's inability to absorb any kind of solid food. Otherwise one feels fine. Until it keeps up for 10 days and you're weak and dehydrated and still the test is negative.

To the rescue, my acupuncturist, Lisa Bernazani. Lisa's needles boosted my immune system and the herbs with anti-biotic properties she prescribed worked to get me back to my usual energetic self.

It's true my doctor had put me on anti-biotics for 6 days, but the bug out-foxed us. I was violently sick again. Back onto another course of anti-biotics for 10 days. When after this course, another 10 days was prescribed, I decided to try the Eastern medicine way. I had the feeling the anti-biotics were also making me feel not quite right. I would see Lisa more often and drink an herbal tea she prescribed.

Yes, the tea is bitter, but it works. I had the anti-biotics out of my system in a few days, I was eating normally and well and most everything I could to gain back the pounds I had lost. The bug was out of my system.

It's scary to think of doubting our Western medicine ways and trusting in the power of acupuncture and herbal teas. It may not be possible given the culture I grew up in. Still every time I trust and embrace Eastern medicine, I feel more healthy and a bit wiser.
